PSA: Critical Staffing Shortage at Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital Emergency Department

(MONCTON) Friday, May 28, 2021-Horizon's The Moncton Hospital's (TMH) Emergency Department (ED) is facing a critical nursing staff shortage this weekend (May 28 to 30).

This means the ED will be operating at a reduced capacity, and Horizon is asking anyone with non-urgent symptoms to consider other options for care.

There are many options for receiving non-urgent care in the Moncton area - including many after-hours clinics throughout the region or virtual care. After-hours clinics can often treat non-urgent and minor illnesses and ailments, such as earaches, sore throats or prescription refills.

Please remember: our ED teams are always there to treat patients in an emergency! If you have a medical emergency, please call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency department.

Patients with non-urgent medical issues may experience long wait times as we prioritize the sickest and most vulnerable patients.

"Our Emergency Department is short on staff and extremely busy," said Nancy Parker, Executive Director at Horizon's TMH. "Please do your part to ensure our dedicated ED staff and physicians can provide the best possible care to those who need it most."

We encourage you to visit SoWhyWait.ca to help choose the best option for care in the Moncton area, including after-hours clinics, pharmacists, a primary health care provider, or Tele-Care 811.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this staff shortage.
