Fredericton Emergency Mental Health

Emergency Mental Health offers consultative/assessment services to individuals who are suffering from a moderate-acute episode of mental illness and who seek emergency care through the hospital's emergency department.


The emergency room physician assesses the problem and when appropriate, requests a consultation/assessment by the emergency room psychiatric nurse.


An emergency room psychiatric nurse provides assessment and treatment services which may include but are not limited to:


a) Assessment of the presenting crisis

b) Consultation by the on-call psychiatrist

c) Liaison with referral sources in the community

d) Referral to community-based services when appropriate

Hours of Operation:
Nursing Service 8 a.m. to midnight Monday-Friday. Saturday & Sunday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Emergency on-call psychiatrist 24/7
