Cannabis

On October 17, 2018, the recreational use of cannabis will be legalized by the Canadian Government.

Similar to alcohol, recreational cannabis remains prohibited and cannot be consumed in any Horizon facility or on any Horizon property.

Cannabis use as a medically prescribed substance is common in our community. However, its role in patients that require admission to hospital is less clear and with risk. Clinical evidence demonstrating the efficacy of medicinal cannabis is insufficient at this time. Medicinal cannabis is not a drug approved by Health Canada.

This is an evolving landscape, and Horizon continues to solicit information to make evidence based decisions. At this time cannabis therapy will not be permitted in Horizon hospitals and facilities.

Usage or storage of non-synthetic cannabis, in all its forms, within the facilities or on the property of Horizon Health Network is not permitted.
