Public Health offers in-school immunizations
(Saint John) Sept. 23, 2013 - The 2013-2014 In-school Immunization Campaign targeting grade seven and grade nine students in Saint John and surrounding areas will begin this fall.
Immunizations offered by Public Health in the schools are as follows:
- The HPV vaccine will be offered to grade seven girls. This vaccine will protect them against Human Papillomavirus. HPV has been found to be present in 99.7 per cent of cervical cancers. This vaccine is a three dose series and will be administered over the school year.
- The Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine will be available to any grade seven student who has not received it in the last five years.
- All grade nine students are eligible for a vaccine that will provide protection against four types of meningitis.
The best way to protect against vaccine preventable diseases is through immunization.
Information and consent forms for immunizations will be sent home with all grade seven and grade nine students. Signed consent forms need to be returned to the school.
