"Dr. Bryden has been providing quality medical and surgical care to the local area for some time," said Dr. Tom Barry, Chief of Staff for Horizon Health Network. "I am very pleased she will be sharing her expertise in a broader range with the medical professionals of the greater Fredericton area."

For more than two decades, Dr. Bryden has been part of the medical staff of the Oromocto Public Hospital and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in the Department of General Surgery and the Adult Critical Care Unit. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery at Dalhousie and Memorial University and is currently enrolled in a Masters in Adult Education Program for Health Care Providers at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). Dr. Bryden is also known for her work as a clinical leader in the Horizon Breast Health Network.

"My husband and I grew up in Fredericton and we are lucky to have been able to work and raise our children here," said Dr. Bryden. "From the day I started here as a medical summer student many years ago, I have always received unwavering support from the medical staff in Oromocto and Fredericton. The physicians here are an amazing group of individuals and it is time for me to give back to this community and to that group in particular."

A graduate of UNB with a Bachelor of Science, Dr. Bryden received her Doctorate degree in Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 1986 and completed a rotating internship at Dalhousie University in 1987. She did a general surgery residency at the University of Toronto in 1992.

As the Chief of Staff, Dr. Bryden's responsibilities will include advising the Regional Medical Advisory Committee on quality of care and safety topics, as well as providing advice to the Regional Chief of Staff on issues involving health-care access for the people in the Fredericton area. She will also chair the Local Medical Advisory Committee for the same area.

Dr. Barry thanked Dr. Murdock, who held the position since 2008, for his dedicated service and commitment to the physicians and patients of Horizon Health Network.

"Dr. Murdock stepped in when asked and assumed a leadership role over the last six years and certainly both Horizon and patients are indebted to him," said Dr. Barry." "He is well-respected among his colleagues for his hard work and dedication and I appreciate his commitment to patient and family centered care."
