Horizon unveils new Diagnostic Imaging equipment for Harvey Health Centre

(HARVEY) July 29, 2014 - Horizon Health Network unveiled new diagnostic imaging equipment at the Harvey Health Centre. Operation of the state-of the art digital imaging equipment began July 28 and will provide the Harvey community with quality health-care services. The total capital investment for this piece of medical equipment is $230,000.

John McGarry, president and chief executive officer of Horizon Health Network said the upgrade was needed to ensure people from the Harvey area continue to receive quality primary health care in their community.

"The new equipment benefits Harvey residents as it provides x-ray services close to home", said McGarry. "It is important to provide accessible health care and diagnostic services to serve the patient needs of smaller communities."

He thanked the community, the Harvey Hospital Foundation and staff members for their ongoing support of the facility while the upgrades were being completed.

The new enhanced digital radiology unit is equipped with a floor-mounted floating x-ray table and adjustable x-ray wall stand.

"This equipment will replace aging technology," said Hugh Flemming, Minister of Heath. "Upgrading technology will ensure that our health-care system is sustainable for future generations."

Harvey Health Centre Diagnostic Imaging operates three days per week with hours of operation from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  A total of 1,700 general radiology exams were completed in 2012-13, an average of 11 per day.

The Harvey Health Centre is focused on the health and wellness of all residents in the area and offers primary care and outpatient services.
