Horizon Health Network is accepting submissions for Community Health Recognition Awards

(HORIZON) December 15, 2017 - Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is now accepting submissions for the 2018 Community Health Recognition Awards. The awards acknowledge and pay tribute to individuals and groups that are making a difference to improve overall health in their community.

"We're thrilled to be recognizing our community partners again this year. Last year was a success and we anticipate that this year we'll continue to hear from even more groups and individuals that play a role in helping people be healthy", said Karen McGrath, President and CEO of Horizon Health Network. "Our Horizon Community Health Recognition Awards aim to recognize the work that supports healthy living where people live, work and play, because that's where it matters most."

Three awards each in the Fredericton, Miramichi, Moncton, Saint John and Upper River Valley areas will be granted for a total of fifteen awards being handed out by Horizon. Winners will receive $500 towards their charity and a plaque.

Horizon will recognize people, and or groups, that understand the importance of health and well-being and are working to improve the factors that negatively affect population health in their community.

The Community Recognition Health Awards will be awarded based on the following categories.

•           Seniors Wellness

•           Youth Wellness

•           Multicultural Health

•           Food Security

•           Accessibility

•           Mental Health

The categories were selected to match reoccurring themes from the Community Health Needs Assessments completed by Horizon.

"We know that there are always new programs and services becoming available to help many at risk groups in our communities, and we want to recognize that excellent work.", said Jean Daigle, VP of Community for Horizon Health Network.

Individuals or groups can apply or be nominated. Application forms and more information can found on Horizon's website. www.horizonnb.ca/awards. Applications are due on February 15th, 2018 and winners will be announced in April at Horizon's Board Meeting.
