Horizon, NB Trauma Program and Partners Host Senior Wellness Week

(SAINT JOHN) May 5, 2014 - Public Service Announcement - Injuries are the most preventable health risk to seniors' health and well-being. More than 900 seniors per year seek treatment at the Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) Emergency Department for an injury due to a fall. This number translates into approximately three visits per day.

Fall prevention will be among the topics covered as Senior Wellness Week kicks off May 5.

Injury is recognized as a serious problem and there is commitment in Saint John to help reduce the number of injuries through education, environment restructuring, enforcement of by-laws and improved legislation. By knowing the effects of medications, keeping chronic disease in control, being prepared and keeping our environment safe, we can all strive to live a healthy, injury-free life.

The NB Trauma Program is supporting the week-long activities along with its partners Loch Lomond Villa Senior Wellness Centre, St. Joseph's Health and Aging Program, St. Joseph's Community Centre, City of Saint John Leisure Services and Go Ahead Seniors.
