Dr. Erik St. Pierre is New Medical Director for NB Trauma Program

Dr. St. Pierre(HORIZON) May 28, 2014 - Dr. Erik St. Pierre has been appointed the new medical director of the New Brunswick Trauma Program, Health Minister Hugh Flemming announced today.

Dr. St. Pierre fills the role previously held by Dr. Marcel Martin.

"I am very pleased to welcome Dr. St. Pierre into this new role, and I am confident that his expertise and experience will serve the people of New Brunswick very well," Flemming said.

Dr. St. Pierre has been a practicing physician since 1992, serving as an emergency department physician, director of an emergency department and as chief of staff for a community hospital. Dr. St. Pierre has also practiced emergency medicine at the province's two major trauma centres - the Saint John Regional Hospital and The Moncton Hospital.

Dr. Edouard Hendriks, chair of the New Brunswick Trauma Program Advisory Committee, said the committee's support for Dr. St. Pierre was unanimous. "We are very pleased to have Dr. St. Pierre join the NB Trauma Program team. Erik brings a wealth of clinical and administrative experience to the position, together with a commitment to establish the relationships with physicians, other health-care providers, and our communities to ensure we deliver on our promise to New Brunswickers - to help save lives through exceptional, coordinated teamwork."

"I am impressed by the work done so far to create a truly inclusive trauma system for New Brunswick, and I look forward to contributing to further enhancements to care in both rural and urban settings," says Dr. St. Pierre. "I also want to be sure that we meet the entire mission of the program - that is, to provide national leadership in ensuring excellence not only in injury care, but also in injury prevention, education and research in trauma."

The New Brunswick Trauma Program provides provincial leadership and coordination of injury prevention, clinical care, education and research related to serious and critical injuries in New Brunswick. The New Brunswick Trauma Program is a formalized partnership that includes Horizon Health Network, Vitalité Health Network, Ambulance New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Department of Health.
