New Brunswick Trauma Program to Host Atlantic Trauma and Emergency Medicine Conference

(Provincial) September 21, 2017 - New Brunswick is playing host to a highly anticipated Atlantic conference this week. The conference, organized by the NB Trauma Program with its partners, is an interdisciplinary event with a focus on local research, expansive educational programs, optimization of clinical care, and fostering injury prevention initiatives across the Atlantic Regions.

"This interdisciplinary event provides a tremendous opportunity for collaboration and fostering innovative solutions to provide exceptional trauma and emergency care", said Dr. Tushar Pishe, Medical Director for the NB Trauma Program and Conference Co-Chair. "I look forward to welcoming our colleagues from across Atlantic Canada and providing the platform for sharing fresh ideas in the field of trauma and emergency medicine."

Over 200 physicians, nurses, paramedics, administrators and other health-care professionals from all four Atlantic Provinces are coming to Moncton, prepared to share best-practices in trauma response and emergency medicine. The interdisciplinary nature of the conference will facilitate collaboration across the Atlantic Provinces, and enable thoughtful discussion in managing the unique health care challenges experienced in Atlantic Canada.

Highlights from the conference include a keynote address from Dr. Peter O'Meara, internationally renowned Doctor of Paramedicine and professor at LaTrobe University, Australia and Dr. Chris Hicks, ground-breaking Research Scientist and Emergency Medicine Physician at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. Dr. O'Meara will be speaking about managing the challenges of a rural based Trauma System and Dr. Hicks will address team dynamics in emergency situations. Other conference topics and workshops include "Saving Lives with the Preventable Campaign," and "Configuring Emergency Departments to Save Lives."

The conference will take place September 21 to 23 at the Delta Beauséjour in Moncton. For more information please visit NBTrauma.ca.
