Horizon Health Network announces new CEO
(GNB) November 10, 2016 - Karen McGrath, an experienced health-care executive, has been chosen as the next chief executive officer of the Horizon Health Network.
"Karen McGrath brings with her more than 35 years of experience in the health-care sector in Atlantic Canada and Central Canada," said Health Minister Victor Boudreau. "Her skills, abilities and competencies will be an enormous asset to the Horizon Health Network in delivering sustainable, safe and good quality health-care services to residents of New Brunswick."
McGrath, a native of Newfoundland and Labrador, will assume the position in January when current CEO John McGarry retires.
McGrath comes to New Brunswick following more than 14 years as CEO in various organizations, including the Georgian Bay General Hospital, Central Health (Newfoundland and Labrador), the Ontario Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association, and Health and Community Services (Central Newfoundland and Labrador). She has also held complex and challenging positions within the health-care sector, both in hospital settings and with regional health authorities in Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador.
McGrath holds a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in social work from Memorial University. She also obtained a diploma in health services management from the Canadian Hospital Association.
Boudreau said McGrath's selection was the result of an open and transparent national search. Last June, the Department of Health used an executive search firm to help find a new CEO for the Horizon Health Network.
