Investment in improvements at Saint John Regional Hospital
(Saint John) July 14, 2015 - The provincial government is investing $530,000 in a capital improvement project at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
"We are making investments in health care today to ensure that our infrastructure is well-positioned to meet tomorrow's demands in the most efficient manner possible," said Health Minister Victor Boudreau.
"Our investments in the Saint John Regional Hospital will ensure that New Brunswick families have access to the best possible quality of health care."
The capital project consists of the establishment of a new isolation room in the medical intensive care unit.
As part of today's announcement, a new linear accelerator was unveiled in the oncology department.
This piece of equipment replaces an existing machine to deliver radiotherapy treatments to cancer patients. The accelerator was purchased for $3.8 million as part of the 2014-15 capital equipment budget.
"All New Brunswickers deserve access to the right health care treatments at the right time," said John McGarry, president and CEO of Horizon Health Network. "It is important to invest in effective new technologies now to ensure our patients continue to benefit from exceptional care every day."
