The Moncton Hospital (Horizon Health Network) is looking for a General Practitioner Oncology Support (GPO) to start as soon as possible.  The physician will deliver outpatient services to cancer patients within a regional interdisciplinary team setting.

The Moncton Hospital is a 386 bed teaching hospital centrally located in the Maritimes.  Referral population includes Eastern New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and North-Western Nova Scotia.  The city, with adjoining municipalities, has a population of more than 144,000 and was ranked as one of the best Canadian cities for quality of community life.  There is also excellent availability of educational opportunities, cultural events and recreational activities in the immediate area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide care to patients receiving chemotherapy and other treatments and troubleshoot in the clinic with complications from the chemotherapy
  • To offer palliative symptom management and liaise with the division of palliative medicine when appropriate
  • Review labs and other reports and write prescriptions
  • Provide follow-up examinations and treatment
  • Responsible to dictate and sign off on their report
  • Complete forms and necessary written referrals as needed
  • Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team (including for example: Tumor Board, Oncology Patient Care Team meetings) to address policy development and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate
  • Participate in oncology related meetings pertinent to the TMH oncology services
  • Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved
  • Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority's mission, values and strategic directions
  • Other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Chief of Family Medicine and Chief of Oncology

Reporting Relationship:

The GPO will collaborate with the oncologist(s) for oncology clinical care, will be responsible to the Medical Director for service delivery in the oncology outpatient clinic, and will be responsible to the Clinical Department Head of Family Medicine for professional matters and scope of practice.


Members of the Department of Family Medicine must have one or more of the following qualifications:  CCFP, ABFM (American Board of Family Medicine), Le Collège des médecins du Québec (Médecine familiale).  In special circumstances, foreign graduates and other physicians who qualify for licensure in the Province of New Brunswick may be considered.


You will be remunerated at the sessional rate of $137.39/hour paid through Accounts Payable of the Horizon Health Network. Work sheets need to be submitted to the Medical Staff Office in the specified format provided.
