Miramichi boasts extremely low housing costs even though it continues to grow. The City of Miramichi is an amalgamation of 2 towns and 3 villages and is most famous for the majestic Miramichi River. The city has excellent restaurants and entertainment venues, many focused on the great outdoors.
World-famous salmon fishing river
The world-class Miramichi River is a salmon angler's paradise. Cast a fly over any of the storied salmon pools and see why this river has inspired artists, poets, musicians and authors from around the world. Anglers can spend a day or a week on a guided fishing expedition in some of Canada's most beautiful outdoor spaces, and spend nights relaxing in the luxurious lodges that can be found along the river. During the various ocean fishing seasons, you can venture just outside the city, to one of the wharfs along the main bay, and purchase lobster and other seafood directly from the local fishermen.
Outdoor adventure for all seasons
In winter, many of Miramichi's lodges, and other businesses
which cater to the outdoors person, are accessible by snowmobile. A
well-developed and maintained trail network links the lodges so
that snowmobilers and skiers can enjoy a day in a winter
Miramichi also offers many other indoor and outdoor activities such as boating, tubing, biking, tennis, windsurfing, hiking, hockey and curling. The 22-kilometre trail system provides ready access to the river, and the 500-acre French Fort Cove Nature Park. The city also offers indoor pools and arenas, numerous ball parks and soccer fields, a curling club, fitness centres, libraries and museums, and an 18-hole golf course at the Miramichi Golf and Country Club.
You'll be welcomed by the locals!
And, of course, 2 of Miramichi's greatest assets are its people and its culture. Nowhere is the Maritime experience more authentic than in this remarkable community. Take in one of the local folk festivals or simply enjoy the warm hospitality of the local people, day in and day out.
