Moncton Inpatient Psychiatry

The Psychiatric Unit at the Moncton Hospital provides inpatient services to individuals suffering from an acute episode of mental illness.

Service generally includes assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, treatment and consultation. Follow-up care is provided by community-based Addictions and Mental Health services.

The need for inpatient treatment is determined by the emergency on-call psychiatrist.

Psychiatric consultation may be requested via several routes depending upon the crisis or issue. Common routes for consultation come from: nurse practitioners, family physicians, mobile crisis services, emergency mental health services, emergency room physicians, or private practice psychiatrists.
